Sofia Morgan grew up in Sweden but has spent the last couple of years living and working in Wales, the UK, where her husband, Jonathan, is from (see below). Sofia is a Social Worker and moved to South Africa in September 2011 where she works with Baby Safe to support and empower families, pregnant women and young mothers in crisis. She serves on our Masi Outreach Team, with a particular heart for African immigrants and asylum seekers. She is passionate about Women’s Rights and in her spare time she can be found on the beach, at a vineyard or in a sewing class.
Julie is from Omaha, Nebraska, has been married for 10 years and has 3 little girls. She has a Bachelor of Science in Communications and experience in web site design, public relations, project management, marketing and has been published. She is Baby Safe’s Director of Women’s Business Development and Life Skills, with a passion for seeing women experience new purpose and step into their potential. She mentors at-risk teenagers in Ocean View using performing arts as a personal development tool. She has been bungee jumping, ice climbing, paragliding off a mountains, skiing in the Alps, on Safari in Africa, and backpacking around Asia and Europe by herself – but nothing compares to the excitement of living with toddlers!
Viwe as we call her, comes from the Eastern Cape of South Africa, but has lived in Masiphumelele for years now. She is the young mother of an almost 2 year old. After Viwe graduated from high school she actually quit a paying job, so she could volunteer full time for Baby Safe, as a mommy mentor and member of our Masiphumelele outreach team. We have now been able to hire Viwe because she is an invaluable part of our team. She enjoys reaching out to young girls in Masi, and she is often paired as a mommy mentor with struggling mothers that need support and supervision. Viwe enjoys spending time with her son, doing Bible studies, and sharing in friendship with all different types of people. Viwe plans to start working towards a social work degree this year.
Anita grew up Washington State in the United States. She has worked with Baby Safe since January 2012. She serves on the Ocean View Outreach team, targeting young girls and children at risk. She works from and helps operate the Yellow House, a counseling house in Ocean View. She also manages the Baby Safe Network. Her dream has always been to work internationally in an organization that targets women and children. She feels she is right were she belongs. She loves working hands on with abandoned babies and troubled women; offering them options and resources. When Anita is not doing these things she enjoys running, hiking, coffee, and exploring the beauty of South Africa.
