It's never too early to turn kids on to reading, so for the littlest ones on your gift-giving list consider titles from Begin Smart. Billed as books for brainy babies -- and who can resist a moniker like that? -- the titles are color-coded and broken into categories.

Blue titles are for newborn babies to those 6 months old. (Yes, you read that right.) Green titles are for babies from 6 to 12 months old, and red titles are for babies 12 to 18 months old. The back of each book tells parents what skills the books are intended to encourage.

They include things such as visual stimulation for the blue books, association for green books and language skills for the red ones. The books have simple illustrations and very basic text. They are very durable with thick pages that can be easily turned. They vary in price, but most are below $10, making them a good stocking stuffer.
