Radio Flyer My 1st Scooter, Red

$39.99

Radio Flyer: Makers of the Little Red Wagon and Tricycle

Once the weather warmed up all of the kids in our neighborhood could be seen riding up and down the sidewalk on their scooters. Adeline wanted to be just like them and constantly asked for a scooter. I did some research and came across the Radio Flyer My First Scooter. I went to the store and looked at it and just couldn’t make up my mind. I wasn’t sure if she was big enough for it although the age said 2-5. It has an extra wide base for stability and two wheels in the front for easier steering. It looked really cool but for $49.99 I wasn’t sure if she would really use it. One day I was at and came across a pink version of it (the other one I saw was classic red) and it was only $29.99! Now, my mind was made up. Adeline was getting a scooter like the big kids. She was so excited!

When we got home we put on her princess helmet and she tried to ride the scooter. She had a hard time at first but with her dad’s help she quickly got the hang of it. He pushed her up and down the sidewalk a couple of times and then she was able to do it by herself. She has been using it in the grass, which is helping her learn to balance. The Radio Flyer My First Scooter folds up so it is easy to store. I like that Adeline will be able to use it until she is 5. It was definitely one of the better purchases that I have made this summer. If your beginner wants a scooter you should check out .

Radio Flyer Scooters: Scooters for Kids | Radio Flyer

  • Pros: ease of use for toddlers, folds for storage, three wheel design

Cons: opening or folding down scooter takes a bit of hand strength

Our little guy in 2.5 and recently received the Radio Flyer MY First Scooter as a gift from his Grandparents.  He had tried the more traditional two wheeled scooter, but was not able to balance and also figure out the footwork.  This scooter design is great for a first timer!

This scooter has two wheels in the front and one in the back.  This makes it much more stable and user friendly for toddlers. The size of the scooter is also great since it is made for a younger child.

The steering is also a great addition to the product.  Instead of just leaning to turn like on a 2 wheeled model, this one has handles that actually turn the two front wheels.  It makes balancing for a first timer easy. We also found as our little guy first tried it out, this steering was fun to try as an adult pulled them for "practice".

We found this scooter to be very stable and sturdy.  I also love the fact that it folds in half for easy storage.  On the front of the base there is a small button to push and scooter folds down. We keep ours in the car so we always have it at the park, etc.

The only draw back we found with this product was the fact that folding or unfolding takes a bit of force so it is hard for me to do.  It doesn't really bother us that much since Dad is usually around but it is something to be aware of.
